The Fabric Behind Faradays Concept Store Experience

The Fabric Behind Faradays Concept Store Experience

This year saw the opening of Faradays—a luxury concept store that delivers an experience far beyond your usual retail expectations.

Premium Surface Protection house of the year_Canterbury_House

The vision founded by Edward and Constance von Dadelszen, was turned into bricks and mortar in collaboration with Cheshire Architects, after the success of their online e-commerce store.

It’s a place where you can browse through coveted iconic fashion brands such as Alexandre Vauthier, Loewe and Louboutin alongside New Zealand’s own designer labels. Then marvel at stunning homewares, fragrances and floristry, before (during or after) a glass of vintage champagne at the in-house bar.

The interior’s artistic use of light-coloured fabrics and soft furnishings set against reclaimed wood pillars and stone slab tables creates a tactile and enticing environment.

The stand-out design feature however, is the spotlit shelving set behind taught fabric, theatrically pulled open and secured with gold holdbacks, to stage showstopping shoes and handbags.

Other furnishings include curvaceous designer lounges, textured rugs and deep wall-to-wall upholstered seating embellished with plush cushions in the bar.

Why Wear and Tear Should Never get in the Way of Outstanding Interior Design

The colour pallet and features are all bold choices for a tactile retail store slash bar that encourages its clientele to interact and stay for a while.

Knowing this, Faradays brought in Premium Surface Protection (PSP) to fibre protect all the furnishings, including the stretched fabric backdrops.

MicroSeal and Fiber ProTector fabric protector was used to shield fabrics from daily foot traffic, spills, dust, dirt and fingerprints. FireDefender was also used in line with building regulation specifications. As a result, the integrity of every fibre has been preserved to ensure each piece continues to play its part in elevating the concept store experience.

This makes Faradays, a truly great example of why commercial wear and tear should never get in the way of innovative and outstanding interior design.

“I’m amazed by the incredible Microseal products and the impeccable service from Brad and his team. There have been a few spills on my protected rug and couch. Both red wine and Café Patron have been easily absorbed by my MicroSeal Chamois Sponge, leaving no trace at all. And with some kind of wizardry (science according to Brad), WonderSpot Spray managed to vanish dried chilli oil from our pale grey couch—incredible.”

NZ Master Builders House of the Year 2022

PSP Keeps Furnishings in Winning Condition

One of the highlights of being in the fibre and textile protection industry is admiring the work of talented interior designers and architects first-hand.

This was certainly the case when we stepped inside the winning NZ Master Builders House of the Year 2022, to protect the furnishings within.

Premium Surface Protection house of the year_Canterbury_House

The category alone, New Home over 4 Million conveys the grandeur of this 924 sqm estate, with six bedrooms, four bathrooms, three living areas, a bar, a games room, an eight-car garage and a swimming pool complete with changing rooms.

It’s a house that will be lived into the full with its kitchen hub, quiet corners, and multiple dining and entertaining areas. Yet, it’s also one that will be arduous to keep pristine due to its sheer size and the constant activity within.

So how can they keep it looking immaculate?

Fortunately, we at Premium Surface Protection were able to prescribe the right protection for every room from floor to ceiling or, should we say rugs to drapes.

It was a notable reminder that we constantly see household furnishings that are overlooked when it comes to protection from daily wear and tear, entertaining, inevitable accidents and fire. So we’ve used this opportunity to compile a checklist of obvious and not-so-obvious items that all benefit from fibre protection including:

  • Leather dining chairs
  • Leather/fabric bar stools
  • Lounges
  • Armchairs
  • Wingback chairs
  • Footstools/poufs
  • Bed headboards
  • Carpets
  • Rugs
  • Cushions
  • Throws
  • Drapes and curtains
  • Outdoor lounges and chairs
  • Daybeds
  • Sunloungers
  • Hammocks
Our work in the Master Builders House of the Year 2022 is done for now, although we’re sure we’ll be back to provide our extended rug cleaning and carpet protection services. Until then, we’re proud of our contribution. It’s a great feeling to walk out the door knowing the owners and their future guests can now enjoy every aspect of their new space without the anxiety of who’s going to knock over that first red wine.

Fabric Protector Comparisons Part 2

THE SAFETY AND TOXICITY OF FABRIC GUARD PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET

As a part of your due diligence when searching for the best fabric protector, the safety of the chemicals used and their effects on children, animals and adults must be considered in detail.  While some chemicals may be fairly safe for humans to be around, they could be quite toxic to animals; and visa versa.

The opportunity to guard against wear and tear of fibres to ensure they look new for as long as possible and the colours stay vibrant, is as soon as they arrive from the supplier to a home or office; before they are used. So being ready with the safest product that provides the best and longest protection is vital.

In this analysis we are considering the

1. toxicity,
2. whether or not the products provide a bacteriostatic environment,
3. are the fibres safe to touch after application, and
4. does the product contain fluorocarbons

Toxicity

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTectors® formula contains no harmful PFOA or PFOS Ingredients. Fiber ProTector is the only protection product in the world to earn the EnviroSeal® certification!
EnviroSeal® is an evaluation and certification for environmentally responsible maintenance products suitable for use on carpets, rugs and furnishing fabrics.
Other protection products utilize outdated, harmful chemical that contain PFOA and PFOS which have been shown to be extremely persistent chemicals, both in the environment and in human tissue.
Recent studies have linked these chemicals to serious damage to the immune systems in children.

Bacteriostatic

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTector® mechanically creates a clinically proven Bacteriostatic environment on textiles it is applied to. This “Bac-Stat” Environment has
been tested to show a 99.9% reduction in mould, mildew and bacteria propagation.
Other protection products have no known benefit of performance in this area.

Safe for Contact

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTector® has been clinically proven via independent third party testing to be harmless to humans. Fiber ProTector® is chemically inert once it has
dried.
Many Protection products contain ingredients that are known to have irritant causing effects to humans. (In some cases, capable of producing serious health
issues.)

Fluorocarbons

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTector® proprietary formula has been laboratory verified to contain no
Fluorocarbons whatsoever.
Some of the most recognizable names in protection products are fluorocarbon based. Fluorocarbons are industrial chemicals that produce potent greenhouse gases, and some form toxic compounds that can accumulate in the environment.

When your textiles are treated by Premium Surface Protection textile treatments, simply follow these simple guidelines when dealing with liquid and other spills.

Firstly, look for manufacturer’s textile specific cleaning instructions as some fibre compositions can be permanently damaged by using incorrect methods and even collapse with the addition of water. Otherwise,  BLOT– DILUTE – BLOT, using water and then clean up with WonderSpot.

To BLOT means to NEVER RUB OR SCRUB!

Use absorbent paper towel, or ideally the PSP SuperSoaker Absorbent Chamois Sponge, applying pressure until all liquid has been absorbed. Ensure to continue to change the absorbent paper for clean paper while applying pressure, or wring out the Chamois as needed.
For fatty/oil spills (eg ice-cream or gravy) use WonderSpot which contains a mild PH to break down the spill, and then continue to blot with absorbent paper or Chamois.

The most effective way to clean up spilled Coffee & Wine

Life’s little accidents don’t need to become major disasters.

UH OH – THERE GOES THE COFFEE!

Sound and feel familiar?

We all know that sinking feeling as you scramble for the closest cloth or paper to get to the liquid before it sinks into the fabric or rug……but it doesn’t have to be that way!

Accidents will happen. At some stage someone will bump someone else holding a coffee, the rich red wine splashes while being poured or the orange juice slurps out of the glass onto your favourite cushion.

So protecting your soft furnishings and rugs and carpets provides peace of mind. It allows you not to have to focus on what people are doing, but focus on them being a part of the activities.

When that is taken care of, the clean up is much easier and incredibly effective.

SIMPLY:

BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

How to clean up spilled coffee premium Surface Protection protects against coffee spills

So now your textiles have been treated by Premium Surface Protection Textile Treatments, follow these simple guidelines when dealing with liquid and other spills.

Firstly, look for manufacturer’s textile specific cleaning instructions as some fibre compositions can be permanently damaged by using incorrect methods and even collapse with the addition of water. Otherwise,  BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

WET SPILLS

Use water to clean up water-based spills (eg tea) and most other beverages; these need nothing more than water. Simply blot as much of the spill as possible and then dilute with just a little bit of water and then blot again. Never over wet or saturate the contaminated textile!

BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

What does BLOT mean?

It means to NEVER RUB OR SCRUB!

DRIED LIQUID SPILLS

Lightly re-wet the spill and follow the instructions above under the heading BLOT – NEVER RUB OR SCRUB

WET OR DRIED SOLIDS

Remove as much of the solids as possible by vacuum or blunt spoon or knife, then treat as above, either as a WET SPILL or DRIED LIQUID SPILL.
Some light or delicate textiles may need professional attention in either a wet extraction, very low moisture cleaning or dry cleaning if there are any marks still showing.
