Fabric protector Comparisons Part 1

With so many Fabric protectors or fabric guards on the market,
WHICH PRODUCTS PROVIDE THE BEST WEAR AND TEAR?

When we purchase new furniture or a new rug or curtains we have the opportunity to guard against wear and tear of of the fibres to ensure they look new for as long as possible and the colours stay vibrant.

However, not all fabric protectors are made equal, and in fact there are many that will damage the fibres, wear off quickly or need frequent re-application.

Our 1st infographic outlines the 4 wear and tear concerns for fabric protection, or fabric guard, and how Fibre Protector stands up against other products.

Stain Protection

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

FIber ProTector® creates an invisible shield against oil and water-based stain causing liquids and soil types. It even provides a reduction in damage causing UV exposure. Other protection products provide a basic level of protection from some oil and water-based liquids. Few protection products have any UV protection qualities at all.

Long Life

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTector’s nanotechnology-based formula makes a penetrating bond. Although no protection product will last forever, Fiber ProTector® will provide superior protecting performance for many years and will survive many professional cleanings. Traditional surface barrier protection products can be removed easily by normal wear and professional cleanings. These topical treatments will need reapplication every 6 to 12 months or after professional or DIY cleanings.

No Silicon

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTectors® proprietary formula contains no Silicone. Never has…never will! Many well-known protection products contain Silicone. Silicone has been known to cause a yellowing effect to some fibers and as it breaks down, actually becomes a soil attractant and voids most textile manufacturers warranties.

Fiber Wear

Fiber Protector®

Other Products

Fiber ProTector® reduces surface tension. This prevents damage causing particles from attaching to fibers and reduces fiber to fiber contact which leads to fiber wear. Other protection products provide time limited protection and will need more frequent reapplications for long term performance. Every 6 to 12 months or after professional or DIY cleanings.

When your textiles are treated by Premium Surface Protection textile treatments, simply follow these simple guidelines when dealing with liquid and other spills.

Firstly, look for manufacturer’s textile specific cleaning instructions as some fibre compositions can be permanently damaged by using incorrect methods and even collapse with the addition of water. Otherwise,  BLOT– DILUTE – BLOT, using water and then clean up with WonderSpot.

To BLOT means to NEVER RUB OR SCRUB!

Use absorbent paper towel, or ideally the PSP SuperSoaker Absorbent Chamois Sponge, applying pressure until all liquid has been absorbed. Ensure to continue to change the absorbent paper for clean paper while applying pressure, or wring out the Chamois as needed.
For fatty/oil spills (eg ice-cream or gravy) use WonderSpot which contains a mild PH to break down the spill, and then continue to blot with absorbent paper or Chamois.

The most effective way to clean up spilled Coffee & Wine

Life’s little accidents don’t need to become major disasters.

UH OH – THERE GOES THE COFFEE!

Sound and feel familiar?

We all know that sinking feeling as you scramble for the closest cloth or paper to get to the liquid before it sinks into the fabric or rug……but it doesn’t have to be that way!

Accidents will happen. At some stage someone will bump someone else holding a coffee, the rich red wine splashes while being poured or the orange juice slurps out of the glass onto your favourite cushion.

So protecting your soft furnishings and rugs and carpets provides peace of mind. It allows you not to have to focus on what people are doing, but focus on them being a part of the activities.

When that is taken care of, the clean up is much easier and incredibly effective.

SIMPLY:

BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

Firstly, look for manufacturer’s textile specific cleaning instructions as some fibre compositions can be permanently damaged by using incorrect methods and even collapse with the addition of water. Otherwise,  BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

WET SPILLS

Use water to clean up water-based spills (eg tea) and most other beverages; these need nothing more than water. Simply blot as much of the spill as possible and then dilute with just a little bit of water and then blot again. Never over wet or saturate the contaminated textile!

BLOT – DILUTE – BLOT

What does BLOT mean?

It means to NEVER RUB OR SCRUB!

DRIED LIQUID SPILLS

Lightly re-wet the spill and follow the instructions above under the heading BLOT – NEVER RUB OR SCRUB

WET OR DRIED SOLIDS

Remove as much of the solids as possible by vacuum or blunt spoon or knife, then treat as above, either as a WET SPILL or DRIED LIQUID SPILL.
Some light or delicate textiles may need professional attention in either a wet extraction, very low moisture cleaning or dry cleaning if there are any marks still showing.

3 Reasons You Should Use a Fabric Protector on Your lounge, Sofa or Dining Chairs

3 Reasons you should use a fabric protector on your lounge, sofa & dining chairs

Why protect your lounge, sofa or dining chairs?

Life is busy. Little people and big people fill your house, and accidents will happen. At some stage someone will bump someone else holding a cuppa, the chocolate cake crumbs will make their way into the sofa fabric weave and a splash of juice will stain the upholstered dining chairs.

So protecting your sofa or lounge provides peace of mind. It allows you not to have to focus on what people are doing, but focus on them and being a part of the activities.

In brief – a fibre protector applied to your sofa or lounge will

      1. protect it from stains and spills
      2. make it much easier and more effective when you need to clean
      3. and will help protect your health
Premium Surface Protection for fabric sofas

1. Protect from Stains and Spills

Owning soft furnishings like a lovely comfortable fabric lounge or sofa or beautifully upholstered dining chairs always come with that nagging voice in your head ”don’t drop anything on it!’. Most of the time if we have kids, that voice is not just in our heads, but is audible many times a day!

From cake, chocolate and cheese to coffee and other drinks, we are constantly watching out for our furnishings trying to avoid the inevitable.

If you could protect your soft furnishings, and have a professional guarantee that they would be protected from stains and spills, then it makes perfect sense to take that extra step to protect them and have them looking their best for longer.

How does a fabric protector work to protect from stains on your lounge or sofa?

Premium Surface Protection products (Fiber Protector or MicroSeal) work via nanotechnology, penetrating the textiles they are applied to to give a high level of permanency. Premium Surface Protection products are not coaters like Scotchgarde and teflon style products, and don’t carry the health risks or performance effectiveness issues associated with these types of products; so they are really safe for the whole family, including the little 4-legged ones!.

Accidents naturally will happen.

The coffee splash, the red wine spill, the smudged in chocolate from little fingers, or a drop of oil from your favourite cheese; but all these can be simply cleaned up if you have protected your fabric before they happen.

Depending on the spill, you may only need an absorbent paper or chamois to catch up the beading on top of the fibres.

If the spill does sink into the fibres, use an absorbent paper or chamois, and then a spot cleaner like Wonderspot to raise the contaminants to the surface and then blot away.

2. Make it easier and more effective when it comes to cleaning

Fabric protectors help increase surface tension. This means that any liquid spilt on the fibre cannot easily penetrate the surface. With proper application, fabric protectors applied to your fabrics will prevent immediate absorption of any spills, and can effectively be absorbed with a chamois or absorbent paper.

Due to the increased surface tension and fibre protection, dust, dirt and crumbs don’t get trapped inside the fibres and break up within the fibres causing more mess and internal staining. The dust, dirt and crumbs sit high up in the weave and can be more effectively removed with vacuuming faster and with no fibre damage. This makes the whole cleaning process easy.

3. Protecting the fibres means protecting your health

Fibres in your lounge or sofa are the perfect place for allergens, mites, moulds and other disease-causing germs to grow and cause health issues. Without proper protection and cleaning, germ-ridden furniture and carpets can cause major health issues for any member of the family.

How does a fibre protector stops allergens, mites, mould and other germs?

The nanotechnology of Fiber ProTector and MicroSeal keep the allergens out of the upholstery fillings and they can then be easily vacuumed up.
